Boys & Girls Club and the Health Nut promoting healthy eating in a fun way

Kids and healthy eating do not always go hand in hand. Thanks to a partnership with Sylvie Thibert, also known as The Health Nut, campers at the 506 Camp at the Boys & Girls Club made their own healthy snacks all summer with the Kids in the Kitchen program.
Every Wednesday campers had the opportunity to learn about healthy eating and prepare healthy snacks under the guidance of Thibert. Many times when kids are presented with unfamiliar food, they do not want to try it; this was not a problem in the Kids in the Kitchen Program because the kids wanted to try what they had made. The campers were often surprised how yummy healthy food could be! Getting kids in the kitchen has proven to have many other benefits as well, such as working on math skills (counting, measuring, and doubling), social skills (working as a team) and language skills (learn the names of foods and kitchen tools). The summer program may be nearing its end but the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall / SDG hopes to continue this partnership with the Health Nut in the future.
