MORE INFORMATION ON INSIDESTRONG 2019-2020 COMING SOON

InsideStrong – Offered in partnership with Caveman Strong gym, this fitness inspired program is designed to give teens an opportunity to experience and achieve success through hard work and dedication.

Program Goals and Objectives:

Turn young lives around through community based support. At-risk and/ore disengaged adolescents will gain self-confidence, experience a sense of belonging and work towards good physical and social health. This BGC InsideStrong program serves as an excellent example of the Boys & Girls Club core value of "collaboration," "we will work together with the public and private sector to create healthy community solutions for providing children and youth with what they need for optimal development." Through the collaborative efforts of the Boys and Girls Club, Caveman Strong, the Public and Separate School Boards, Cornwall Community Police and Youth Justice we can help make a difference in the lives of young people who may simply be in need of or desperate for role models, healthy physical outlets and people who care.

InsideStrong participants learn respect for themselves and for others by participating in, encouraging others, while being mentored in fitness, and in effort by role models and coaches who care. The sense of inclusion and belonging in this unique community gym environment has proven significant to these young people who are often on the "outside" or "fringes" of the regular school system. Many have never had the opportunity to participate in school or recreational sports and teams and to experience the sens of belonging to something unique. The opportunity to fully participate and function within a dynamic, coached fitness program positively impacts their self-esteem and confidence. Other positive outcomes including their newly discovered "can do" attitude and their own empowerment to make healthy life style choices have all been observed by parents, teachers and their coaches. The impact of this program will be measured by their improved education and social outcomes in the short term and their improved life outcomes in the long term.

Belonging to a Boys & Girls Club is often a life changing experience as young people can build healthy, supportive relationships with caring adult role models which can deeply and positively influence the life path they choose.

Caveman Strong

Caveman Strong:
Caveman Strong is the evolution of training and provides a unique group dynamic to physical fitness. Caveman Strong is a constantly varied, functional movement regime executed at high intensity (power output). Natural human movements are mixed up into new and exciting workouts every day to improve the 10 generally recognized physical fitness skills which are cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, speed, balance and accuracy. An individual is as fit as they are competent in each of these ten skills and this fitness regime improves each of them through supervised training and practice.

Improvements in endurance, stamina, strength and flexibility come about through training. Training refers to activity that improves performance through a measurable organic change in the body. Improvements in coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy come about through practice. Practice refers to activity that improves performance through changes in the nervous system. Power and speed are adaptations of both training AND practice. Coaches are there to teach and to motivate but most importantly to ensure individuals are striking the right balance between safety, efficiency and intensity.
