How to Volunteer

Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

1. The Application and Intake Interview - An application form must be filled out by all potential volunteers. We will also require a photo ID and proof of address.

2. Police and Reference Checks - A police check is required for all volunteers. Volunteers can request a volunteer letter from Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG to take to the Cornwall Community Police Services or OPP requesting a vulnerable sector screening certificate.

  • The police check must be completed before you can start to volunteer.
  • We require 2 professional references from people such as teachers and employers and 1 character reference such as friends and family members.

3. Follow-up Interview - A follow-up interview is done to go over the Volunteer Handbook and place a volunteer in a location.

4. Orientation/Training - All volunteers must attend an Orientation at their site. Orientations occur once a month.
